Meet Jamilla Pinder:

Greensboro City Councilwoman Jamilla Pinder is a compassionate leader who has always focused on the needs of those she serves. In her many numerous community advocacy roles, she is a quintessential servant leader. Even before she was selected to serve as an  at-large representative on City Council – filling the seat by the late Mayor Pro Tempore Yvonne Johnson – Jamilla has had a penchant for serving her community. She has served on nearly two dozen city boards and commissions, a testament to how she gives back to the city in which was born and raised. Her passion is fighting for those less fortunate among us; thus, for most of her adult life she has fought for equity in healthcare equity and access for quality food access in Greensboro’s poorest neighborhoods.Professionally, Jamilla is the director of community engagement and impact at the Cone Health Foundation. Jamilla grew up in Greensboro and graduated from Dudley High School’s Science and Math Technology Academy and North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University. Her son is a graduate of Ben L. Smith High School and Fayetteville State University.

Priorities

Advancing Housing Opportunities for All

Affordable housing is more than a catchphrase for Jamilla. It’s in her DNA and is something she has advocated for much of her adult life, after growing up without means and becoming a single teenage mother in Greensboro. Those experiences have driven her passion for affordable housing and assisting families in need.

Economic Growth and Opportunity

Jamilla staunchly supports the arrival to the Gate City of job-creating employers like HondaJet and, more recently, Toyota. Toyota’s multibillion dollar investment in the City of Greensboro creates the type of high-paying jobs Jamilla will continue to advocate for as an at-large member of the Greensboro City Council.

Infrastructure and Sustainability

One of Jamilla’s priorities is economic development. She has collaborated with NCWorks to create economic mobility for many City residents. She also is a board member of the Tanger Center for the Performing Arts, a major economic hub in the heart of downtown Greensboro.

Public Safety and Community Engagement

Jamilla is committed to making the City of Greensboro safe for everyone. She recognizes and appreciates the monumental sacrifices the City’s police and fire personnel make every day to keep our City safe.
